I had both a plumbing appointment and an HVAC maintenance appointment scheduled for the same day. The plumber, Steve, came first, and when I explained that our water bill had suddenly increased by $30–$40 a month, he took a quick look and said he thought he knew the issue and had some parts to replace. When I asked for at least a ballpark cost before approving the repair, he told me he had no idea and couldn’t even give a rough estimate. When I said I wasn’t comfortable authorizing a repair without knowing the cost, he acted shocked and didn’t offer anything else, so I sent him on his way. My experience with the HVAC tech, Dan, was the complete opposite. He was professional, informative, and did great work. Because of him, I was planning to sign up for their yearly HVAC program. Unfortunately, when I called to share my concerns about the plumbing visit, the manager, Randy, brushed me off and insisted Steve was “amazing,” showing no interest in hearing what actually happened. On top of that, I still haven’t received a bill for the HVAC maintenance. When I called again today to ask how I’m supposed to pay or when I would receive an invoice, I wasn’t given a clear answer and she tried to pass me off to another person to share my experience with Steve when I explained my earlier experience, the woman on the phone said she was “shocked” because Steve is great, and even claimed I was “putting words in her mouth”when I just repeated what she said about the technicians not giving estimates. Because she told me it isn’t their job to give estimates before doing repairs….something I find incredibly unreasonable. No one should be expected to approve a repair without knowing the cost. At this point, it feels like everyone is more focused on defending the plumber than actually listening to customer concerns. Maybe it’s a training issue, but it’s not a good look. Because of all this, I would not use this company again and I recommend others don’t either if they want price transparency and a simple billing process.

Central Iowa Mechanical went above and beyond on our project! From start to finish, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. They communicated clearly throughout the process and made sure everything was done right the first time. The quality of their work is top-notch, and it’s clear they take pride in what they do. Highly recommend Central Iowa Mechanical for anyone looking for reliable and trustworthy service!

Not impressed. We had an issue with our humidifier system which they came in to assess and repair, and the faulty repair led to a flood in our basement. I’ve hired another company to provide maintenance on my HVAC system and have learned that the system installation is “crappy” and has likely led to damage to the system and possibly the need to fully replace it. An example of the bad installation is that no bypass system was added - which I’ve now learned is critical when you have multiple zones in the house.
